The Northern Capitals’ hockey season came to a sudden end Sunday morning in Langley.
The Fraser Valley Rush scored two goals in the first two minutes and went on to defeat the Capital 5-1 in the pivotal third game of their best-of-three B.C. Elite Hockey League U-18 female triple-A championship series.
Fraser Valley forward Gillian Lapierre scored the first of her two goals in the game just 13 seconds in, and Julia Clauzel also found the Caps’ net at the 1:52 mark. Leah Bernard of the Rush made it a 3-0 game late in the period.
Caps forward Jessa Brewer scored the only goal of the second period but Fraser Valley put it away with two more in the third. Vienna Rubin scored at even strength and Lapierre connected on the power play.
Rebecca Noble picked up the win in goal for the Rush. Karsyn Niven played between the pipes for the Capitals.
The Prince George-based Capitals won the first game of the series 4-3 on Friday. Fraser Valley tied it with a 3-2 win on Saturday.
The Rush, who won the regular season title, 10 points ahead of the second-place Capitals, eliminated the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers in a two-game semifinal series in Langley last weekend, while the Capitals swept the Vancouver Island Seals lin a two-game semifinal series at Kin 2.
Fraser Valley will host the Alberta champions in a best-of-three Pacific regional series to be played in Langley.
The four regional winners and host Prince Albert Northern Bears will clash April 19-23 in Prince Albert, Sask., at the Esso Cup U18 national championship tournament.
