This year, it will be an international Minifest.

When the Prince George Youth Soccer Association holds its annual house division tournament June 17 to 19 at Rotary Fields, an Under-15 girls team from Frankfurt, Germany, will be in attendance. The German side will play a total of five games against local clubs.

Originally, an exchange between German and Prince George teams was supposed to happen last year. But, for various reasons, those plans didn't work out.

So, jump ahead to this year, and the Germans are coming. The team, called SV Leonberg, is scheduled to arrive on June 15 and will play its first game June 17 at 6 p.m.

"When I originally spoke to [the German coach] I was going to match him up with our 15- or 16-year-old group but he said that they're more at a house team level, not at an all-star or select level," said Lorrelle Hall, the PGYSA's select director. "So, we're setting them up with our 13- to 15-year-olds. And, because we had our Minifest going on at that time, it kind of worked out well that we had a big event that they could be part of."

The German girls will be on the pitch for two more games on June 18 and an additional two on June 19.

The visitors will be here until June 23 and will be staying with billet families. Outside of soccer, they'll make trips to Barkerville and Jasper.
