Hockey Canada is putting its faith in Taylor Gauthier.

The 17-year-old Prince George Cougars goaltender was named to the 22-player roster as one of two goalies for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

This will be the second time the Calgary native has represented Canada on the ice. Gauthier played for Team Canada White in November 2017 at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John.

Gauthier, selected 10th overall by the Cougars in the 2016 WHL bantam draft, played 32 games for the Cats last season, compiling a 3.96 goals-against average and .885 save percentage and he posted eight wins. He made 847 saves, fifth among WHL rookie goalies.

The eight-team, under-18 tournament, formerly known as the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, starts Monday in Edmonton and Red Deer.

Canada plays Switzerland in the opener in Edmonton.

Tonight in Red Deer in a pre-tournament game Canada will face the Czech Republic.

Nolan Maier of the Saskatoon Blades is the other Team Canada goalie.
