The Alison's Embroidery atom girls hockey team from Prince George, which plays in the local Tier 1 division, captured top spot in a five-team tournament in Clearwater on the weekend.

The Gators, who opened the event with a 3-1 loss to the Kamloops Dynamite, avenged that result with a 3-2 victory over Kamloops in the final -- and did it in a shootout that was required after sudden-death overtime failed to determine a winner.

The Gators also beat the two host entries, blasting the Baby Wildcats 10-0 and defeating the Baby Hawks 7-3.

The team is coached by Shane Davis, Grant Zimmerman and Liza Arnold, and players are Elexa Davis, Megan Goetken, Ciara King, McKenzie Muir, Kenna Derkson, Kate Arnold, Mya Ziemer, Makaela Day, Jordan McMillan, Isabel Zimmerman, Alexis Magrath, Talia Nahulak, Reegan Haley-Dahl and Jacqueline Spendiff.
