Prince George native Michael Garteig earned Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference goaltender of the week honours after leading Quinnipiac University to a pair of victories over a conference rival last week.
Garteig stopped 44 shots in a pair of 3-1 victories over the NCAA's ninth ranked UMass-Lowell, the second one coming in Quinnipiac's home opener. Quinnipiac, the NCAA runners-up in the championship final to their conference rival the Yale Bulldogs, have a 3-1 record this season.
Garteig has a 1.51 goals against average and a .958 save percentage in his second season with Quinnipiac. Before joining Quinnipiac last season, Garteig backstopped the BCHL Penticton Vees to the 2012 RBC Cup after a recording-setting regular season. Prior to joining the Vees, Garteig played two seasons with the Powell River Kings, finishing second in the BCHL playoffs both years to the Vernon Vipers.
In his three full seasons, plus one game with the Quesnel Millionaires as an affiliate, Garteig posted a 92-23-3 record with 13 shutouts, a 2.07 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.
