One of the most colorful and entertaining sporting events of the year happens this weekend at Masich Place Stadium.

The Annual Punjabi Sports Tournament runs from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and will be back in action at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. Planned events include Kabaddi, track and field, soccer, volleyball, cricket, tug-of-war, sack races and three-legged races.

In Kabaddi, teams compete for higher scores by touching or capturing the players of the opposing side. Teams alternate going on offence and defence. The side that wins the opening coin toss sends a raider, who enters the opponent's court chanting, "kabaddi-kabaddi." The raider's aim is to touch any or all players on the opposing side and return to his court in one breath. The person whom the raider touches is out.

The aim of the opposing team is to stop the raider from returning to his own court until he takes another breath. If the raider cannot return to his court in the same breath while chanting "kabaddi," he is declared out.

Spectators are welcome to attend.
