Free kick off skills camp

Prince George Minor Football Association (PGMFA) is offering a free football camp, to give kids a chance to see if football will be in their future.

Prince George Minor Football Association (PGMFA) is offering a free football camp, to give kids a chance to see if football will be in their future.

The one-day camp is held each year to give kids an opportunity to see if they want to sign up for a full season off football.

The camp runs July 16, from 9 a.m. to noon at Ecole Lac dubois (formerly Lakewood) and gives kids a chance to get more acquainted with the sport without committing to an entire season.

"We are doing a demo of our drills, things for kids to run through and meet the coaches," said PGMFA administrator Amber Spence.

The camp is free for kids born between 1998 and 2005 and pre-registration is not required. However there will be an opportunity for parents who want to register their kids into the league at the camp.

"We are hoping to see 50 kids out there at least. Last season 90 were registered [in the league] out of Prince George and another 50 to 60 out of Vanderhoof," said Spence.

For children aged six to nine, the first 25 to register will have their $50 registration fee waived. For peewee, junior and bantam ages the fees are $195 plus a $75 volunteer bond. The $75 will be refunded at the end of the season if a minimum of five hours of volunteer service is provided to the league during the season by someone in the player's family.
