Down to just six healthy bodies, the UNBC Timberwolves made the best of what they had.
They needed a fourth-quarter comeback to overtake the University of Regina Cougars and left the court Saturday in Regina with a 76-71 victory - their sixth straight win.
Maria Mongomo led the way with 27 points, 15 rebounds and four steals, while Emma vanBruinessen was a force on the glass with 13 points and 17 rebounds.
Madison Landry had 15 points and eight assists and fifth-year guard Emily Holmes collected 12 points and four assists. Because they were short players due to injuries and illness, Mongomo played 36 minutes, vanBruinessen played 38, Landry was on the court for 37 and Holmes played the entire 40 minutes.
Macaela Crone was the offensive engine for the Cougars, with 22 points and eight rebounds. Faith Reid made four three-pointers for 12 points, while Michaela Kleisinger scored 13 points to go along with nine rebounds and eight assists. Alexi Rowden added eight points and 14 boards.
The T-wolves improved their season record to 9-9. They host the Grant MacEwan Griffins Friday (noon) and Saturday (5 p.m.) to complete their Canada West schedule.
