The Tim Hortons Brier is less than three months away and four Prince George rinks would love to be sipping coffee as part of Team B.C. when Kamloops hosts the men's national championship March 1-6, 2014.
The first step in that process begins Saturday at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club at the Northern zone men's playdown. Just one berth is up for grabs for a spot in the eight-team B.C. men's championship, set for Vancouver Curling Club, Feb. 4-9.
Prince George skips Nigel McInnis, Tim Hamilton, Bill Cameron, and Scott Sherba are entered in the mix on the ice this weekend.
The opening draw is set for Saturday at 9 a.m., with draws to follow at 2 and 7 p.m., Sunday at 9 a.m., and, if necessary, a fifth draw Sunday at 2 p.m.
McInnis's team includes third James Blanchett, second Lyle Hensrud and lead Jason Dalio. Hamilton's crew has Ben Jones at third, Lorne Bernard at second and Brian Hamelin playing lead. The Cameron rink is made up of third Cale Rusnell, second Mike Hansen and lead London Blundell. Sherba has third Geoff McGrath, second Chris Pallof and George Hackle tossing out lead rocks.
Spectators are welcome.
