For the latter half of his B.C. Hockey League career, Kolton Cousins was a King.
Now he’s bound for Queen’s.
The 21-year-old native Sechelt, who served as captain of the Prince George Spruce Kings last season, has been recruited to join the Queen’s University Gaels, based in Kingston, Ont..
“I’ve heard nothing but great things about Queen’s,” said Cousins, in a Spruce Kings team release. “It’s an honour to have the opportunity to be a part of such a first-class school and hockey program. I’m looking forward to the years ahead and I am excited to further my development as a player, person, and as a student through a program known for its excellent environment and culture.
“I honestly can’t thank my family, the Spruce Kings organization and everyone who has supported me along the way enough for all their support throughout the years. I’ll always be a proud Spruce King and I can’t wait to see the great things that this organization continues to do. Thank you everyone for your support, I’m really excited to begin this next chapter in Kingston!”
As a forward, Cousins played all 54 regular season games for the Spruce Kings in 2021-22 and produced 16 goals and 14 assists for 30 points. He was equally productive in the postseason with two goals and three assists in 10 playoff games.
After a full BCHL season with the Cowichan Valley Capitals, Cousins came to Prince George seven games into the 2019-20 season and went on to play the next three seasons with the Spruce Kings. In a five-season BCHL career he totaled 33 goals and had 28 assists in 189 regular season games. He also played 26 playoff games, totalling 215 Junior A games between Cowichan Valley and Prince George.
“Kolton’s commitment to his teammates and work ethic will be unmatched,” said Kings head coach Alex Evin. “He has made such a positive impact in his three years with our organization. He leaves Prince George as an outstanding teammate, leader, hockey player, and person.”
