Fjellstrom, a Prince George product who was captain of the Cariboo Cougars this past B.C. Hockey Major Midget League season, has committed to the junior A Spruce Kings for 2012-13. The local B.C. Hockey League club offered Fjellstrom a roster spot after a weekend camp at the Coliseum.

Fjellstrom, 17, is coming off a 20-goal, 51-point regular season with the Cougars. The five-foot-11, 190-pound forward was the only Cat to play in all 40 games. Fjellstrom ended the MML season second overall in team scoring and helped the Cougars advance to the playoff championship series against the Vancouver Northwest Giants. In four playoff games, he had two goals and two helpers.

Fjellstrom has already seen game action with the Spruce Kings. As an affiliate player, he appeared in two contests during the past BCHL regular season and was held off the scoresheet. In 2010-11, Fjellstrom skated in three games for the Kings and picked up an assist.
