Fjellstrom leads SAIT to victory

When it comes down to school, Madison Fjellstrom is all business, and her approach to hockey is no different.

When it comes down to school, Madison Fjellstrom is all business, and her approach to hockey is no different.

Now studying business administration as a first-year student at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Fjellstrom picked up where she left off last season playing forward for the provincial-champion Northern Cougars triple-A midget team in Prince George.

Fjellstrom scored the winning goal in the second period to help the NAIT Trojans win their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season-opener 2-0 over the defending-champion NAIT Ooks Friday night in Calgary.

Erin McLean of Trail added a goal in the third period and Lanticia Castillo of Surrey made 26 saves to earn the shutout for SAIT (1-1).

First-year defenceman Jayden Malgunas of Prince George, a business major at SAIT, was held off the scoresheet.

The rematch Saturday did not go SAIT's way. They lost to the Edmonton-based Ooks 4-1.

Forward Jocelyn Forrest of Prince George, a first-year nutrition major, scored the lone goal for the Trojans, tying the game 41 seconds after NAIT's Veronika Kuzelova opened the scoring in the first period with her first of two goals.

Breanna Frasca and Jordyn Tibbatts also scored for the Ooks (1-1).

SAIT travels to Olds on Thursday to play the Olds College Broncos.
