Back to school for many kids also means back to the skating rink.
The Prince George Figure Skating Club dug their tips into the ice after the summer break to start a new season of recreational and competitive skating. The fall session of lessons has about 16 students signed up with the Prince George club and runs until October. In the Star Skate or competitive stream, there are 17 skaters registered so far.
New PGFSC coach Jen Auston said there are also lessons offered in the Can Skate program, which is for beginners just learning how to skate. Auston joined the Prince George club about two months ago after spending 12 years teaching in her hometown of Houston.
Joining Auston as coaches are Chelsea Akerley and Shelley Mantua.
Practices are held at the Kin 2 arena. The Prince George club office (upstairs overlooking the Kin 2 ice surface) is open to take registrations after 2:15 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays or sign up online at www.pgfsc.ca. Prices for the various programs can also be found online.
