From Salmon Arm to the 2015 Canada Winter Games, 80 female hockey players have earned a chance to audition for Team B.C.
They've been picked for a four-team jamboree set for April 24-27 in Salmon Arm, the first step in selecting the team that will represent the province at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George.
Eight goalies, 24 defencemen and 48 forwards are heading to Salmon Arm, including five Prince George players. Madison Fjellstrom, Kyrsten Franz, Avery Quiring, Kiana Wilkinson and Sabrina Knopp are all in the running to compete for B.C. in their hometown Canada Games. All played this past season for the Northland Dodge Northern female Cougars except Knopp, who skated for the Richmond Pacific Steelers.
Several other Cougar players - Chantelle Beadman-Rolph (Williams Lake), Taylor Beck (Houston), Cassidy Bell (Baldonnel), Sage Desjardins (Terrace), Cassidy Mellott (Lone Butte) and Kelsey Roberts (Kitimat), have also been invited to the jamboree.
The women's hockey tournament is scheduled for the first week of the Games, Feb. 13-20, with games at CN Centre and Kin 2. The event is open to players under age 18 as of Dec. 31, 2014.
