The B.C. Female Major Midget Hockey League team extended their unbeaten streak to three games with a win and tie with the Kootenay Wildcats. Saturday the Cougars picked up a 5-4 win and followed it up with a 1-1 tie on Sunday.

The three-point weekend improved the Cougars record to 6-10-4 this season and allowed them to overtake the Wildcats (6-11-3) for fourth place in the five-team league.

In the win the Cougars received goals from Kelsey Todd, Megan Hickey, Cheyann Newman, Cassidy Mellott and Kyrsten Franz. Madison Fjellstrom notched her ninth goal of the season in the 1-1 tie.

Kali Walls was in the Cougars net for both games, facing 20 shots in the first game and 28 to preserve the tie for her team.

Cougars head coach Stewart Malgunas said the girls success can be attributed in part to their ability to maintain composure and stay out of the penalty box.

In their last three games the Cougars are 1-0-2.

The Cougars have a couple weeks off before hosting the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets, Feb. 9 and 10.
