Esopenko medals at age group meet

Hannah Esopenko's carry-on luggage just became a tad more heavier over the weekend.

Hannah Esopenko's carry-on luggage just became a tad more heavier over the weekend.

That's due to the 15-year-old Prince George Barracuda capturing a medal of every colour - gold, silver and bronze - at the 2015 Canadian Age Group Championships in the pool at Quebec City.

Esopenko claimed the silver medal in Friday's 100-metre 15-year-old girls breast stroke, touching the wall in one minute, 12.98 seconds.

Renae LeDoux of the Langley Olympians won the gold medal, clocking 1:11.60, while Nina Kucheran of the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club followed behind Esopenko to win the bronze medal, posting a time of 1:14.02.

The trio was also on the podium after Saturday's 200m breast stroke.

LeDoux won the gold medal, clocking 2:35.33, followed by Kucheran in second place with a time of 2:38.55. Esopenko was right behind her to claim the bronze medal, clocking 2:38.71.

Esopenko opened the meet on Wednesday with a gold medal and a new club record (15-17 girls division) in the 50m breast stroke with a time of 33.17 seconds.

Kucheran won the silver medal, clocking 33.37, while LeDoux captured the bronze medal with a time of 33.43.

Esopenko also clocked 5:04.22 in Thursday's 400m individual medley and wrapped up the meet Sunday with a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:25.08.

Rebecca Smith of the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club won the race with a time of 2:19.00.

Esopenko is now in Pointe Claire, Que. for the Senior National championships from Aug. 6-9.

She'll then travel to Wood Buffalo (Fort McMurray) where she'll represent Team B.C. at the Western Canada Summer Games.
