When it comes to winning the Canadian Hockey League's goaltender of the week award, Ty Edmonds is two-for-two.
On Tuesday, the 19-year-old member of the Prince George Cougars was announced as the top stopper in the CHL - which includes the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League - for the week of Nov. 30 to Dec. 6. Edmonds was also nominated for the award, and won it, in October 2013.
"What a tremendous honour this is for both Ty Edmonds and the Prince George Cougars organization," said Cougars general manager Todd Harkins. "Our goaltending this season has been a huge reason for our success and we are so proud of Ty for achieving this honour for a second time in his career. We know that he'll continue to build off of this success as our season continues."
In three appearances last week, Edmonds posted a 3-0 record with a 0.77 goals-against-average, a .973 save percentage and one shutout. His week started with a 31-save, 3-2 victory Tuesday at home against the Portland Winterhawks. The next night against Portland, Edmonds came into the game in relief and turned aside all 15 shots he faced as the Cougars came back to beat the Hawks 5-3. Finally, Friday night in Everett, Edmonds stopped 27 shots in a 3-0 decision against the Silvertips.
Other goaltenders considered for the CHL weekly award were Devin Williams of the Erie Otters and Alexandre Blanger of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
Edmonds, who hails from Winnipeg, trails only Scott Myers (95) and Billy Thompson (64) for all-time wins by a Cougars goalie. Heading into Tuesday night's home game against the Kootenay Ice, Edmonds had 57 victories to his credit.
