Edgson impresses at international meet

Sydney Edgson has added a couple world-level medals to her collection of judo awards.

Edgson, who represents the Prince George Judo Club, fought to silver and bronze at the Sportif International, which ran Saturday through Monday In London, England. In individual competition, she posted a 3-1 match record in the Under-18 minus 63-kilogram category. Edgson was also chosen to participate in team matches. As a member of Team Western Canada, she picked up a bronze medal.

Tami Goto, one of Edgson's Prince George clubmates, was also on the mats in London. In the Under-18 minus 48kg class, she won her first match and lost her next two.

Sportif Judo's website says the organization is committed to the evolution and development of judo. Sportif has clubs in England, Scotland and Sweden.

Edgson and Goto are among the top young judo athletes in Canada. At last year's national championships in Calgary, both won bronze medals in the Under-16 age group.
