The defending city champions put their power on display on Wednesday night.
The Cedars Christian School Eagles senior girls basketball team took on a talented D.P. Todd Trojans squad in a city league game at D.P. Todd and breezed to a 63-49 victory. The Eagles, currently ranked No. 1 in the province at the single-A level, were led offensively by Kayla Gordon and Hannah Pudlas, who hit for 17 points each. Shannon Kragt added 14 for the winners.
Tenley Pearce responded with 21 points for the Trojans, who also got 10 out of the hands of Elysha McLachlan.
The Eagles led 21-12 after the first quarter, 41-20 at the half and 60-33 after three quarters.
As well as claiming last year's city title, Cedars has won silver medals at the past two provincial championship tournaments. The Eagles will host this year's provincials, March 6-9 at the Northern Sport Centre.
In other girls games Wednesday night, the host PGSS Polars edged the Duchess Park Condors 58-56 and the College Heights Cougars used home-court advantage to beat the Kelly Road Roadrunners 64-36.
In boys games, the Condors defeated the Polars 77-51 and the Cougars romped past the Roadrunners 86-39.
In tournament action this weekend, senior girls teams will be at Nechako Valley in Vanderhoof and senior boys teams will be on the court at D.P. Todd for the Trojan Wars. Both events start today and will conclude Saturday.
In the junior division, College Heights is hosting a girls tournament and Duchess Park is welcoming the boys.
