Eagles, Condors back in city hoops finals

In the Prince George High School Basketball League, the Cedars senior girls and Duchess Park senior boys won their respective semifinal games this week and will play for their second consecutive titles on Wednesday at the Northern Sport Centre.

The girls final will tip off at 6 p.m. and will see the Eagles take on the PGSS Polars. The boys championship game will follow, at about 8 p.m. In that one, the Condors will play the same team as last year, the D.P. Todd Trojans.

In their semifinal game, held Wednesday night, the Eagles downed Duchess Park 59-48. The Polars, meanwhile, ran to a 73-55 win against D.P. Todd. Mavia Nijjer paced PGSS with 29 points, and Fiona Raymond responded with 21 for the Trojans.

On the boys side, the Condors beat the College Heights Cougars 79-53 on Tuesday night. Duchess got 17 points from Nathanial Pawluk and College Heights was led by Lucas Badial, who had 15. In the other semifinal, played Wednesday, the Trojans topped the Polars 68-43.

The Cedars girls were city champions for the first time last year. In the big game, they downed Duchess Park 87-59.

In the 2012 boys final, Duchess defeated D.P. Todd 56-45.
