Dominant weekend for Condors volleyball teams

The event, held at College Heights secondary school on the weekend, featured Grade 8 and junior boys divisions and the Condors claimed both titles.

At the Grade 8 level, Duchess Park was especially dominant as both of its teams played in Saturday's championship match. In the final, Duchess Park 1 edged Duchess Park 2 in three tight sets. Scores were 25-23, 25-27, 17-15.

In the junior final, the Condors clashed with the Kelly Road Roadrunners and emerged with a 25-16, 27-25 victory. The upstart Roadrunners had stunned the Condors with a 25-23, 15-25, 15-13 win in the round robin portion of the event.

The tournament victory was the second in a row for the junior Condors.

College Heights will host the junior boys zone championship this weekend. The top two teams will advance to provincials, Nov. 21-23 in Abbotsford.

The College Heights Cougars finished 10th at the 16-team George Elliot Coyote Classic senior boys volleyball tournament in Winfield on the weekend.

The Cougars compiled a 3-2 match record. Their victories came against the host Coyotes (25-20, 25-20), Mount Sentinel of South Slocan (25-15, 25-16) and Vernon Christian (25-23, 25-16). College Heights suffered its losses against Clarence Fulton of Vernon (best-of-five, 26-28, 25-18, 29-27, 25-23) and Pacific Academy of Surrey (25-17, 26-28, 15-11).
