Discs to start flying this spring

Believe it or not, by May 1st the snow is expected to be gone from city fields. At least that's the hope of Prince George Disc Sports, the people responsible for bringing Ultimate Frisbee to the city.

Believe it or not, by May 1st the snow is expected to be gone from city fields.

At least that's the hope of Prince George Disc Sports, the people responsible for bringing Ultimate Frisbee to the city.

The group has plans to start a spring co-ed recreational league beginning play on Thursday, May 1 at Spruceland Traditional elementary school field. The league is open to adults and high school students looking for exercise who want to learn the basics of ultimate and improve their skills while upholding the spirit of the game, encouraging sportsmanship rather than competitive play.

The league will play two games per night on consecutive Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:30 p.m., until July 31.

The cost to register is $90 per player, which includes a day-long tournament to be held on a Saturday in June yet to be determined. The registration fee includes a T-shirt.

Last year's spring league created in an unprecedented level of interest with eight teams and more than 130 players.

Prince George Disc Sports also organizes a competitive ultimate league. For more information go to pgultimate.ca
