Dickson looks to win Simon Fraser Open

Fresh off his second golf title of 2013 Kyle Dickson heads into this weekend's Men's Simon Fraser Open bursting with confidence.

Fresh off his second golf title of 2013 Kyle Dickson heads into this weekend's Men's Simon Fraser Open bursting with confidence.

"This is the first year I actually felt prepared to play at a high level and actually win," said Dickson, winner of the 54-hole men's club Aberdeen Open on Sunday. "I definitely feel more prepared and actually feel like I have a good chance."

The 19-year-old won the junior Simon Fraser Open at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club in June and will look for a sweep of the Simons when he tees off Saturday in the men's open. The tournament concludes Monday.

Last weekend, Dickson held a six-stroke lead over 2012 Aberdeen Open champion Mike Legg heading into the final day after shooting three-under par Saturday. On Sunday the duo matched each other shot for shot through the front nine, but the nerves kicked in for Dickson on the back nine.

"It got a little dicey at the end, I kind of started leaking oil on the back nine Sunday, but I got away with it," said Dickson.

The UNBC commerce student said he only had Legg by about two strokes after the 16th hole and then he put himself in a bit of trouble on 17.

"But I hit the chip of my life to make par and I closed it out," said Dickson. "I had a four-shot lead standing on the 18th tee."

He won the Aberdeen Open by four strokes.

With the two victories at Aberdeen and the junior Simon, Dickson said he's having his best summer on the greens since he competed on the old junior tour a few years ago.

Dickson will go for a third win in the Men's Simon Fraser Open where he'll try to beat 2012 champion Blair Anderson at the PGGCC. The entry fee is $160 and registration can be done by phoning the Pro Shop at 250-563-4417. Last year, Dickson finished 10th in the championship flight.

"I'd just like to play well again and maybe get into another final group and see how it goes," said Dickson.
