Fresh off an appearance at worlds, Emily Dickson was impossible to beat at a B.C. Cup biathlon race in West Kelowna on the weekend.
Dickson, who trains with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club, was a double gold-medalist at the provincial meet. In the senior girls category, she finished first in a Saturday sprint race and then duplicated that result in a Sunday pursuit. A couple weeks ago, as a member of Team Canada, she was in Austria for the world youth championships.
Biathlon combines cross-country skiing and target shooting. Saturday's sprint racing saw participants complete three loops of skiing and two rounds of shooting. The sprint results were used to determine the starting order in the pursuit, which saw athletes hit the course in five-second intervals, with the top-ranked competitor going last.
A total of 10 Caledonia Nordics were on their skis in West Kelowna and they brought home 10 medals.
Other medalists were: Bobby Kreitz, junior boys, silver in sprint, gold in pursuit; Erik Hoffman, midget boys, bronze in sprint, gold in pursuit; Leah Forsdick, youth women, silver in sprint, silver in pursuit; Claire Lapointe, senior girls, silver in sprint, fourth in pursuit; and Logan Sherba, junior boys, fifth in sprint, silver in pursuit.
Other Caledonia racers at the event were Josiah Fisher, Mark Hartley, Peter Hoffman and Jody Hoffman.
The team was coached by Pierre Beaudry, Allie Dickson and Andrew Casey.
This was the second B.C. Cup race of the season. The first was held at Whistler in January.
