In the shadow of Dracula's castle in Cheile Gradistei, Romania, Emily Dickson of Prince George finished 41st in the youth women's sprint Friday at the world youth/junior biathon championships.
The 18-year-old Caledonia Nordic Ski Club member, a native of Burns Lake, had two misses in her second round of shooting in the six-kilometre race and finished 2:48.7 behind the winning pace of Karoline Erdal of Norway, who stopped the clock in 1:17.7.
Emilie Aagheim Kalkenberg of Norway was 28.5 seconds behind the winner in second place. Anna Kryvonos of Ukraine was third, 32.4 behind.
Nadia Moser of Whitehorse, Yukon was the top Canadian in 19th place, 1:32 behind Erdal, while Megan Bankes of Calgary was 26th, 2:14.8 off the pace. India McIsaac of Calgary was 54th.
In the youth men's 7.5 km sprint Friday, Teo Sanchez of Quebec was the top Canadian in 17th place and Adam Runnalls of Calgary was 21st. Zachari Bolduc of Ste. Sophie, Que., was 65th and Lucas Boudreau of Prince Edward Island was 76th.
Igor Malinovskii of Russia won in 20:32.9, followed by second-place Endre Stroemshem of Norway (26.3 behind)and third-place Vlacheslav Maleev of Russia (27.4 behind).
The youth pursuit is on Sunday.
In Prince George, B.C. Cup No. 2 races are scheduled today and Sunday at Otway Nordic Centre. The PWC sprint race gets underway today at 11 a.m. The Home Hardware individual race starts Sunday at 10 a.m.
