Brandon Deschamps did his part to carry the UBC Thunderbirds to the Hardy Cup university football championship game.
Now it's up to Deschamps and the T-birds to figure out a way to stop the undefeated Calgary Dinos.
UBC will travel to Calgary to play the Dinos Saturday (11 a.m.) for the CIS Canada West Conference championship. The winner advances to the Mitchell Bowl CIS semifinal round.
Last Saturday in Vancouver, Deschamps rushed for 124 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown, in a 24-10 playoff win over Manitoba. The 23-year-old running back, a Kelly Road secondary school graduate, also hauled in two catches for 39 yards.
Deschamps is in his fifth and final year of eligibility with UBC. Under head coach Blake Nill, who moved this season to Vancouver after nine seasons as head coach of the Dinos, UBC finished second in Canada West at 6-2
The Dinos went 8-0 in the regular season, then defeated Saskatchewan 37-29 in their Canada West semifinal last Saturday in Calgary.
