Brandon Deschamps had another career-high and this time his UBC Thunderbirds football teammates were in the mood to celebrate with him after a come-from-behind 39-36 overtime win Saturday night over the Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton.
The former Kelly Road secondary school running back tallied 217 yards on the ground, a new high, on 28 carries, while punching the ball into the end zone for a pair of touchdowns. Deschamps added 14 yards receiving.
"Brandon is one of the best backs to ever come through UBC and that is pretty impressive company to be in," said UBC head coach Shawn Olson. "He is so explosive when he touches the ball. Plain and simple he is the engine that drives this offence and he did once again tonight."
The win improved the T-birds to 1-1 on the season, while the Golden Bears fell to 0-2 in the Canada West conference of the CIS. The T-birds host the Manitoba Bisons at Thunderbird Stadium on Saturday, 2 p.m.
