Cavin Tilsley and Jarod Hovde are about to be reunited with a former teammate.
The Prince George Spruce Kings have acquired 18 year old defenceman Sam De Melo from the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in a deal for for future considerations.
The five-foot-nine, 160-pound native of Kelowna played 26 BCHL games last season for the Silverbacks, picking up three assists and four penalty minutes.
"It's going to be nice to get a fresh start, and hopefully have a good season here," said De Melo, in a team release. "I like to think of myself as a 200-foot player. I'm a good skater, pretty skilled, can play in all situations and I like to put up points."
Prior to joining the Silverbacks, De Melo played in the Pursuit of Excellence program with Spruce Kings forwards Tilsley and Hovde.
"Sam is a player that I've been intrigued with for a while," said Kings general manager Mike Hawes. "He's a smart player who handles and distributes the puck well. He also skates well and will be able to create some offense for us from the back end. His skill set will be a nice addition to our group."
De Melo is expected to join his new teammates for the start of training camp, Aug. 25.
