A Curl B.C. camp designed to help players ready themselves for competition at regional, provincial and national levels is sliding onto the ice at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.
The Podium Preparation Program will stop in Prince George Oct. 18-20. Players will learn about such things as mental preparation, the fundamentals of a good delivery, sweeping mechanics, strategy and communication within a team environment.
The Podium Preparation Program, however, isn't just for athletes. It will also provide valuable information for coaches, junior curling coordinators and parents, with the goal of having all these separate parts working together for the betterment of the team.
Coaches will learn about creating annual training plans, running effective practices and using video to help players make corrections. Coordinators, meanwhile, will have the chance to review Curl B.C.'s 20-week program and its model for long-term athlete development. As for parents, they'll find out about competition grids, costs and fundraising methods, as well as time and travel expectations.
The fee to attend the Podium Preparation Program is $20 per athlete, while there is no charge for coaches, coordinators and parents.
Registration can be done online at curlbc.ca/coursescamps/podium-preparation-program/ and is now open. Maximum capacity is 20 players.
The camp will be led by Victoria's Lenard Stewart.
