It didn't take long for Craig Dunfield and John Makowsky to wear out their welcome in Quesnel.
The two Northland Nissan Assault forwards provided a rude awakening for lacrosse fans at Quesnel Twin Arenas on Thursday night, peppering the net of the Quesnel Cariboo Hotel Crossfire in a 14-7 victory.
Dunfield, the league MVP in 2013, collected five goals and five assists while Makowsky had an eight-point night with six goals and two assists. Tom Makowsky (John's father) contributed a goal and four assists and Josh Kelly had a goal and five assists. Leading the way offensively for the Crossfire was Levi Robinson with three goals, while Brody Lawlor had two goals and one assist.
Ray Masson, acquired in a trade for future considerations earlier Thursday from the Cowboy Ranch/Regional Security Stylers, made 36 saves to preserve the win for the Assault. Bob Mills blocked 37 shots in the Quesnel nets.
It was the first win of the season in three tries for the Assault, which moved into a tie for third place with the Stylers, each with 1-2 records. The loss evened the Crossfire's second-place record at 2-2. The Westwood Pub Devils lead the league at 5-0, while the BX Pub Bandits, last year's regular-season champions, are last at 1-4.
The PGSLA scene has switched from the Coliseum to Kin 1, where home games of the four Prince George teams will be played for the balance of the season.
On Monday, Westwood Pub hosts Quesnel starting at 8 p.m.
