Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys.
KC Spiers is glad his mom didn't let one bad day at a rodeo two years ago in Vernon keep him away from bull riding for too long.
As much as she would like him to stick to something a little safer, the 13-year-old from Cluculz Lake wants to follow in the footsteps of his grandpa and his uncles and be a rough stock rider. And on Mother's Day, he gave his mom, Corrie Spiers, a present to remember.
His 65-point ride to win the junior high bull riding put a big smile on KC's face Sunday morning at the B.C. High School Rodeo Association rodeo at Prince George Exhibition Park.
"When I started out on my ride I got slipped back on my rope and threw my arm and stuck my chest out and got centred and I just stayed there and rode him till the end," said KC.
"This year I've ridden four out six. I'm really happy about that. I love the adrenaline and feeling good about yourself after making a good ride."
Spiers, who turns 14 this weekend, in on the honour roll at Nechako Valley secondary school in Vanderhoof. He doesn't get the chance to rodeo much close to home in Cluculz Lake but makes regular trips to the practice arena in Kamloops where friends of the family live.
