Brett Zarowny has impressed Prince George Cougars fans all season with his acrobatics in the net and now the Western Hockey League has taken notice.

The 17-year-old rookie was nominated by the WHL for the Canadian Hockey League's goalie of the week award after posting a 2-1 record last week, stopping 91 of 94 shots (.968 save percentage) and a shutout.

Zarowny was the Cougars best player in a 2-0 loss to the Swift Current Broncos last Tuesday, giving his teammates a chance to win the game. The Edson, Alta., native then led the Cougars to consecutive wins over the Vancouver Giants on the weekend, 6-0 on Saturday and 2-1 on Sunday.

In 17 appearances for the Cougars this season Zarowny has allowed 42 goals in 848 minutes played and has an 8-7 record with two shutouts. Overall he has a .910 save percentage and a 2.97 goals against average.

The WHL player of the week was Josh Nicholls of the Saskatoon Blades, collecting three goals and five assists as the Blades posted a 4-0 record last week.

The Cougars (12-18-1-3) return to action after Christmas with a pair of games in Victoria against the Royals (17-14-0-2) on Dec. 28 and 29 before wrapping up the road trip Dec. 30 against the Giants (9-25) in Vancouver.
