Prince George Cougars prospect Tyson Buczkowski is now officially on Hockey Canada’s radar.

The 16-year-old defenceman, the Cougars’ first-round pick (15th overall) in the 2021 WHL draft is among 100 players invited to the national program’s Under-17 development camp in Calgary, July 10-16.

The camp will determine the three Canadian team rosters for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, Nov. 5-12 in Langley and Delta. Thirty-seven of the players invited to the camp were drafted by WHL teams.

Buczkowski, a six-foot, 160-pound Saskatoon native, played this past season for the Saskatoon Blazers of the Saskatchewan U18 triple-A Hockey League. In 24 regular season games he had eight goals and 24 assists, and he maintained his scoring touch in the playoffs with four goals and four assists in seven games.

He’s already signed with the Cougars and is being groomed to play for the team as a WHL rookie this coming season.
