The Prince George Cougars appear to have filled another piece of their 20-year old puzzle.
On Wednesday the Cougars announced they've completed a trade with the Calgary Hitmen to acquire 20-year-old defenceman Peter Kosterman. In return, the Hitmen will receive the Cougars' fourth-round bantam pick in 2014 and their sixth-round pick in 2015.
Kosterman, a six-foot-four, 200-pound native of Calgary, has played four full seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Hitmen. In 234 games he collected five goals and 32 assists for 37 points and 166 penalty minutes. He also played 27 playoff games, picking up two goals and six assists.
He was a first-round pick of the Hitmen (19th overall) in the 2008 bantam draft. Kosterman was a silver medalist as a 17-year-old for the Calgary Buffaloes in the Telus Cup national major midget championship and was ranked 166th among North American skaters at the time. He attended the Calgary Flames training camp as a free agent that year.
The Cougars now have two 20-year-olds on the roster. Forward Klarc Wilson is now attending the New York Rangers training camp.
