After a terrific start at the B.C. high school curling championship, a College Heights Cougars girls rink came back to the pack on Friday but is still in the hunt for a spot in the championship game.
Entering Friday play in Kamloops, College Heights -- skipped by Diamond Wilson and featuring Alyssa Connell, Bailey Eberherr and Sadie Brummund -- had a spotless 3-0 record at the eight-team tournament. The Cougars pushed their record to 4-0 when they beat Mount Elizabeth of Kitimat 9-6 Friday morning.
Unfortunately, the rest of the day didn't go as well.
On Friday afternoon, College Heights fell 9-4 to Selkirk of Kimberley and, in the evening draw, lost 9-2 to Chilliwack.
The Cougars will play their final game of round robin this morning, with first-place Seaquam of Delta (6-0) as their opponent. The College Heights girls will try to push their record to 5-2, which would give them an opportunity to finish in second place and to throw stones in today's championship game.
Chilliwack and Mount Elizabeth are also in position to finish at 5-2.
The Cougars started provincials with wins against Brooks of Powell River (7-3), South Kamloops (8-7 in an extra end) and St. Thomas More of Burnaby (9-5).
Games are eight ends in duration.
