Cougars centre Riley Heidt had plenty of reasons to celebrate on the ice Saturday at CN Centre, where the Cats defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-1. It was Seattle's first loss this season after nine straight wins.

Two goals from Riley Heidt, a late goal from Koehn Ziemmer, and 31 saves from Ty Young propelled the Prince George Cougars to a 4-1 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds, handing the T-birds their first loss of the season.

The Cougars (6-6-0-0) opened the scoring for the fourth straight game in the first period when Heidt tipped in his fifth of the season.

In the second period, the T-bird forward Jared Davidson tied the game, but Heidt and the Cougars responded shortly after to give Prince George a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

In the final stanza, the Cougars got a late goal from Koehn Ziemmer, followed up by an empty-net goal from Ethan Samson to put the game out of reach for the Thunderbirds (9-1-0-0).

GAME NOTES

- Ziemmer and Heidt have combined for 15 points in the last four games
