Zac Funk's second hat trick of the weekend and a 33-save performance from rookie goalie Josh Ravensbergen added up to a 4-0 victory for the Prince Cougars over the Portland Winterhawks as they completed a perfect three-games-in-three-nights U.S. Division road trip Sunday in Portland.
Ondrej Becher also scored and forwards Riley Heidt and Terik Parascak each contributed three assists as the Cougars (21-7-0-0) remained first place overall in the WHL.
The Cougars acquired Funk on Jan. 10 for forward Carter MacAdams, a second-round pick in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft, and second- and fourth-round picks in the 2024 Prospects Draft.
Now with 30 goals, Funk has already surpassed his 26-goal output in 64 games combined with Calgary and Prince George last season. He has four hat tricks this season, including his three-goal outing Friday in Kennewick, Wash., in a 4-1 win over the Tri-City Americans.
The 20-year-old native of Coldstream scored one of the Cats’ goals Saturday on the way to 6-3 triumph in Spokane.
Ravensbergen, the WHL’s goaltender of the month in November, now has a league-high five shutouts. The 17-year-old from North Vancouver also leads the WHL in goals -against average and save percentage.
The Cougars return to CN Centre Friday and Saturday to host the Victoria Royals. Saturday’s game is the annual Teddy Bear and Toque Toss promotion.
