Prince George Cougars forward Ondrej Becher scored three goals and had two assists to lead Czechia to a stunning 8-5 comeback win over Finland in the bronze medal game at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship Friday morning in Gothenburg, Sweden.

After trailing 5-2 in the second period, Czechia scored the five unanswered goals in the third period and the 19-year-old Becher was a central figure in spicing the late flurry of offence.

His second goal of the game with the goalie on the bench at the 18:04 mark of the third tied it 5-5 and 15 seconds later Tomas Hamara gave Czechia the lead. They added two more empty-net goals and Becher’s hat-trick goal completed the scoring.

He finished the tournament with three goals and seven assists in seven games.

The United States and host Sweden will battle for gold later this morning (10:30 a.m., TSN).

The Cougars will be without Becher’s services this weekend when they finish off a five-game WHL roadtrip with games tonight in Seattle, Saturday in Portland and Sunday in Everett.
