The Prince George Cougars have added import defenceman Tomas Andrlik to their roster.
Andrlik, from Plzen, Czech Republic, was acquired from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for a 12th-round pick in the 2015 Western Hockey League bantam draft. The Cougars announced the transaction Tuesday morning.
Andrlik, 19, stands six feet and weighs 189 pounds. In 2012, he played for the Czech Republic at three major international tournaments - the Ivan Hlinka Memorial, the World Under-17 Challenge and the World Junior A Challenge.
Andrlik was originally selected by the Raiders (37th overall) in the 2013 Canadian Hockey League import draft. In 109 WHL games, he has four goals, 23 assists and 105 penalty minutes.
WHL teams are allowed to carry two import players. A spot with the Cougars opened up when the team released Slovakian defenceman Martin Bobos on Dec. 3.
The other import on Prince George's roster is forward David Soltes, who helped Slovakia win a bronze medal at the world junior championship Monday in Toronto.
The Cougars will take on the Tri-City Americans tonight and Wednesday at CN Centre. The puck drops at 7 both nights.
