Golf clubs in hand, Barbie Conway will take aim at a Canadian championship.
Conway, a local Special Olympics athlete, has been selected to attend the first-ever Special Olympics Canada national golf championship, Sept. 28-29 in the Hamilton region. The tournament will take place at the Chippewa Creek Golf Club in Mount Hope.
Conway is one of 12 B.C. golfers who will compete at nationals. A qualifying event was held in 100 Mile House in June.
At nationals, a total of 54 players will be on the fairways and greens. To be eligible, participants must average 75 strokes or less on a nine-hole, par 36 course.
In Prince George, golf became part of the Special Olympics lineup last year. Players practice at Pine Valley Golf Centre on Mondays. The next practice, weather permitting, is planned for Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.
