Connolly wait continues

Brett Connolly is starting to feel good again when he digs his hockey blades into ice.

It won't take away that sinking feeling of a season almost completely lost to injury, but it's a positive sign Connolly is finally on the road to recovery.

Now into his second week of skating on practice ice without equipment, Connolly realizes it's probably too late to reverse the non-playoff destiny of his Prince George Cougars, yet there's still time to restore the confidence of the top-ranked 17-year-old left winger in his own abilities.

With the 2010 NHL entry draft looming in June, Connolly has maintained his standing as the No. 4-ranked North American skater eligible for the draft despite playing in only 12 games this season.

"I've had the most fun I've had in a month here, so it's good to get back on the ice and start the process again," said Connolly, while taking a breather at ice level at CN Centre. "It's not as fun as practicing, but it's a step for sure. It's still not 100 per cent and you can feel it. Hopefully I'll have some quick healing and I can get back on the ice."
