Prince George Cougars captain Brett Connolly did not skate at Canada's world junior team summer development camp Friday.

He needed assistance to get off the ice in the previous evening's scrimmage.

Playing for Team White, the 19-year-old Connolly of the Prince George Cougars went down awkwardly behind the opposition's net in the third period with what appeared to be a leg injury and needed assistance off the ice.

"Right now it doesn't look as bad as first thought," said Canada's head coach Don Hay, following the game. "Maybe just a bad bruise."

Hay expected Connolly to be back on the ice today.

Connolly, a first-round choice of the Tampa Bay Lightning (sixth overall) in the 2010 NHL entry draft, helped Canada win the silver medal at the 2011 WJHC in Buffalo, picking up three assists in the tournament.

The camp, which ends Sunday in Fort McMurray, is the first step in identifying players for Canada's national team for the world junior tournament, to be held Dec. 26, 2011-Jan. 5, 2012, in Calgary and Edmonton.
