Condors win 2012 Jon Bragg Memorial

It was a dominating weekend for the Duchess Park Condors as they swept to victory in the 2012 Jon Bragg Memorial senior boys volleyball tournament.

It was a dominating weekend for the Duchess Park Condors as they swept to victory in the 2012 Jon Bragg Memorial senior boys volleyball tournament.

The Condors A squad - they had two entries in the 12-team tournament hosted by the College Heights Cougars - didn't drop a set as they finished the round robin with a 5-0 record before securing the title with three playoff wins, capping it off with a 25-12, 25-20 win over the Cougars in the gold-medal match Saturday night.

For the Cougars A team, the Condors were the only team to beat them as they finished 4-1 in the round robin, second to Duchess Park in Pool A. In pool play the Condors beat the Cougars 25-20, 25-20.

By virtue of their 1-2 finish both the Condors and Cougars had byes straight to the quarter-finals.

The Condors beat the D.P. Todd Trojans (25-18, 25-19) in the quarter-final before sending North Peace packing in the semifinal by a 25-12, 25-20 margin. The Cougars faced the Prince George secondary Polars in the quarter-final, edging them 25-22, 25-23, before knocking off Bulkley Valley Christian 25-12, 25-20 in the semifinal.

North Peace earned their berth in the semifinal with a 2-1 (25-21, 23-25 and 15-13) win over the Condors 2 team.

The Polars (1-4) finished fifth in pool A while the Condors 2 (4-1) were second in pool B behind Bulkley Valley Christian (4-1). BVC won the head-to-head match 25-17, 25-16 to secure first place. The Kelly Road Roadrunners (1-4) were fifth in pool B, while the Trojans (3-2) were fourth and College Heights 2 (0-5) brought up the rear.

Other schools taking part in the weekend tournament were Houston Christian (0-5), Caledonia (2-3) and Centennial Christian (3-2).
