Condors rise to No. 1 in B.C.

The Duchess Park Condors are now the top-ranked double-A senior girls basketball team in the province. That's due to the squad winning an eight-team tournament at C.W. Graham secondary in Chilliwack on the weekend.

The Condors topped second-ranked St. Thomas More Collegiate of Burnaby 50-42 in the championship final.

Five-foot-10 forward Kayla Auld earned the game star nod in the final.

Duchess Park edged Vancouver's Notre Dame (the eighth-ranked team in B.C.) 58-56 in the semifinal, where six-foot-four centre Marcie Schlick was named the game star.

The Condors opened the tournament with a 72-38 victory against Wellington secondary from Nanaimo. Six-foot guard Madison Landry was selected the game star.

Notre Dame beat C.W. Graham 62-58 to finish third.

Landry earned first-team all-star honours while Schlick was selected as the tournament all-star.

In Prince George senior league action, the PGSS Polars visit Duchess Park tonight at 8 p.m.

Duchess Park hosts the Condor Classic, which tips off Thursday.

The Condors battle the Cedars Christian Eagles at 3:15 p.m. and Nechako Valley Friday at 10 a.m. At 6:45 p.m. on Friday, they take on North Peace of Fort St. John.
