The Duchess Park Condors won their second consecutive zone championship in junior girls volleyball last weekend.
Playing in their home gym, the Condors defeated the College Heights Cougars in the final. Both teams qualified for provincials, Nov. 21-23 in Delta.
In the bronze-medal match, Dawson Creek downed PGSS. D.P. Todd, Cedars Christian, Nechako Valley, Kelly Road and Quesnel placed fifth through ninth.
The Condors were led to victory by Hallie Drezet, who was selected as tournament MVP. Duchess Park also placed three players -- Marcie Schlick, Madi Landry and Brooke Unger -- on the first all-star team.
Other first-team all-stars were Hailey Marquette (College Heights), Kendal Samuelson (College Heights) and Ashley Switzer (Dawson Creek). College Heights player Meagan Warner made the second all-star team and was joined there by Kaelei McMurchy (Dawson Creek), Anika Kolybaba (PGSS), Nicole Watt (PGSS), Brittany Rochon (D.P. Todd) and Jaymie Kwiatkowski (Cedars).
PGSS received the most sportsmanlike team award.
Starting today, Duchess Park will host the senior girls volleyball zone championships. Teams in the triple-A division (Duchess Park, College Heights, Kelly Road, Lake City and Dawson Creek) and quad-A division (PGSS, Correlieu and North Peace) will compete for spots in their respective provincial championship tournaments. Provincials are Nov. 28-30 in Delta (triple-A) and Penticton (quad-A).
Zone championship matches -- which will be best-of-five affairs -- are set for Saturday at 4 p.m.
