The Duchess Park Condors and PGSS Polars senior girls basketball teams both ended their seasons with impressive showings at provincial championship tournaments.
At the double-A provincials in Kamloops, the eighth-ranked Condors finished fifth after playing to a 3-1 record and beating York House of Vancouver 55-53 on Saturday.
Duchess started the tournament with a 68-55 win against Vancouver's Notre Dame and then lost 72-37 to top-seeded Holy Cross of Surrey. In their third game, the Condors played a defensive gem and downed Sa-Hali of Kamloops 51-27.
In Langley, site of the triple-A provincial tournament, the Polars went 2-2. Typically, teams from the north central zone struggle to win even a single game at the event but the Polars, after an opening-game 74-51 loss to Maple Ridge, bounced back with an 80-55 trouncing of traditional power MEI. PGSS then fell 78-54 to Fleetwood of Surrey but finished strongly with a 69-64 Saturday decision against W.J. Mouat of Abbotsford.
