Condors outscore provincial rival

The Duchess Park Condors soared to another basketball title on the weekend, capturing the 2015 Mustang Classic in Kelowna. The senior girls squad, the top-ranked double-A team in the province, defeated host Immaculata 74-71 in the championship final.

Duchess Park downed the sixth-ranked Vernon Panthers 87-45 in the semifinal. In Thursday's opener, the Condors clobbered George Elliott 96-15.

The Condors junior A girls team won the College Heights junior A tournament Saturday, triumphing 48-38 over the host Cougars in the final. Sydney Lopez tallied 18 points for Duchess Park while Brooklyn Nicholson of the Cougars countered with 22 points. Both were named tournament all-stars.

Duchess Park beat Nechako Valley in one semifinal, while CHSS defeated Charles Hays from Prince Rupert in the other semifinal.

The Cedars Christian senior girls claimed the bronze medal at a tournament Saturday at Nechako Valley secondary in Vanderhoof.

The Eagles edged Bulkley Valley from Smithers 55-51 in the game for third place.

Cedars opened the tournament Friday with a 66-60 victory against the Charles Hays Rainmakers from Prince Rupert, but lost to host Nechako Valley in a semifinal Saturday.

Courtney Serup and Kyla Giesbrecht were named tournament all-stars.

In Prince George senior basketball league action on Wednesday, the Cedars Christian senior girls visit College Heights at 6:15 p.m.

Duchess Park travels to D.P. Todd (6:15 p.m. girls, 8 p.m. boys), while PGSS is at Kelly Road (6:15 p.m. girls, 8 p.m. boys).
