On the way to winning a weekend tournament at Kelowna secondary school, the Duchess Park Condors senior girls basketball team knocked off the top club in B.C.
The Condors, ranked third in the provincial double-A division, took on No. 1 Immaculata of Kelowna in their second game and prevailed 86-80.
Duchess Park started the event with a 72-39 victory against Penticton and finished with a 71-64 win against host Kelowna in the championship game. Kelowna entered the weekend ranked fourth in the B.C. triple-A division.
Condors coach Al Erricson said he doesn't expect the team to move up to No. 1 when the new double-A rankings are released later this week.
In the high school city league, playoff semifinals got underway on Monday night when the PGSS Polars clashed with the visiting College Heights Cougars on the boys side. In the second semifinal, the Duchess Park Condors will host the Kelly Road Roadrunners on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.
In girls play, the semifinal games are both slated for Wednesday at 6 p.m. In those contests, host College Heights will tip off against the Cedars Christian School Eagles and Duchess Park will welcome PGSS.
The city championship games will be held next Tuesday (Feb. 9) at the Northern Sport Centre. The girls will be on the court at 6 p.m. and the boys will follow at about 8 p.m.
