Daniel Stratton returned to the Duchess Park Condors backfield and showed no ill effect from the leg injury that sidelined him last month as the running back feasted on the Correlieu Clan, leading his Condors teammates to victory Friday.
The Condors gobbled up the Clan 50-6 in Northern AA Conference action at Masich Place Stadium in the B.C. high school football league season. Stratton carried the ball 10 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns and added 104 yards receiving breaking the plane twice more for a total of four touchdowns in the game.
Stratton made an impact from the opening kickoff, according to Condors head coach Michael Rositano, as he galloped 24 yards on the Condors first drive to the end zone to give his team an early 6-0 advantage. The tailback had missed the previous four weeks of the Condors' season with a pulled hamstring.
It wasn't just Stratton carrying the Condors as, Rositano said it was a "well-balanced assault" his team used to tame the Clan.
Condors quarterback Rylan Matters was 11-for-13, throwing for 188 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a third, and T.J. Kyriakos rushed for 115 yards on six carries scoring two touchdowns. Kyriakos also lined up defensively at middle linebacker where he had seven tackles and an interception.
The Condors had 456 yards in total offence in the game.
"The Clansmen had no answer for our relentless play on offence," said Rositano. "We attacked every part of the field, running inside and outside the tackles and were able to complete short and deep passes."
Other Condors who stood out on the stats sheet in Friday's game include Brogan Cruse leading the team with nine tackles and two quarterback sacks and Jordan Cundy with five tackles and a pair of quarterback sacks.
The Clan's only touchdown came late in the fourth quarter after the Condors replaced their starters with younger players.
Duchess Park returns to action Friday when they host the Kelly Road Roadrunners at Masich Place (5 p.m. kickoff), while Correlieu faces the PGSS Polars on Thursday, 7 p.m. at Masich.
