In the fast lane

The Sub Zero Track and Field Meet takes to Masich Place Stadium this Saturday.

Rain or shine, the annual icebreaker for the Prince George Track and Field Club will go ahead as scheduled.

Running distances will vary from 60 metres to 1,500m, depending on the age of the athlete. Six- to eight-year-olds will compete in the 60m dash, while those nine and older can compete in distances of 100m or longer.

Field events include long jump, triple jump and high jump.

The shot put, discus, javelin and pole vault events are limited to boys and girls 13 and older.

The meet gets underway at 11 a.m. with the 1,000m, 1,200m and 1,500m runs.

Grade 8 hoopsters on the court

The Grade 8 boys basketball district championship will take to the hardwood at College Heights secondary on Thursday.

Seven Prince George teams will tip off beginning at 4 p.m. when host College Heights battles D.P. Todd. At 5:30 p.m., Duchess Park Gold takes on Cedars Christian. That game is followed by a duel between Duchess Park Black and Kelly Road secondary at 7 p.m. On Friday at 3:30 p.m., PGSS plays the winner between College Heights and D.P. Todd.

The bronze medal game is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the gold medal match at 1:30 p.m.
